Corundum Point in Split Rock State Park

We haven’t been up to Corundum Point for awhile, it was 50 degrees and we had time so we took a hike. If you haven’t been up here before, this is the year to do it. In the early 1900’s Corundum was found here and was thought to be strong and abrasivise enough to be grinding stones. 3m built a dock and put up other buildings to start mining the Corundum. Soon after starting they found it was not strong enough and 1908, they abandoned the site. Some the foundations are still there and the view from the top is spectacular. If you don’t know how to get there, just ask Bryce or Judy and you can start hiking in about 5 minutes from our parking lot.
